Bolaji Abdullahi, interim national publicity secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says Peter Obi is yet to join the party formally.
Speaking on Wednesday when he appeared on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, Abdullahi said Obi has been part of the opposition coalition since inception.
Abdullahi said the former governor of Anambra sought permission to conclude the electoral process he began with the Labour Party (LP).
According to him, leaders of the coalition agreed that the presidential candidate of the LP in 2023 should be allowed to complete his election activities in his former party before crossing over to the ADC.
“There is no problem in the ADC. The reason Peter Obi has not come into the ADC as a card-carrying member is because he asked for leave to allow him to complete the election, given that his people were involved in his Labour Party — same as Nasir el-Rufai,” Abdullahi said.
