Bauchi pilgrim board chief accountant, one other bag 7 years imprisonment

A former chief accountant of Bauchi State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Kawu Chindo and a support staff from the State Accountant General’s office, Ali Baba, were on February 16, 2022, sentenced seven years, three months imprisonment by Justice Mu’azu Abubakar of the High Court of Bauchi State on a five count charge of conspiracy and obtaining by false pretences brought against them by the Gombe Zonal Command of EFCC.

The duo were accused by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development of issuing fake tellers and receipts as evidence of payment to intending pilgrims to the 2019 Hajj. They were further accused of not remitting the total sum of N73, 715,286.62 (Seventy Three Million, Seven Hundred and Fifteen Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty Six Naira, Sixty Two Kobo) into the board’s account.
