
Bandits disguised as EFCC officials abducted hotel guests in Niger State. According to reports, the gunmen stormed a hotel in the state, pretending to be operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). They then proceeded to abduct some of the guests, taking them to an unknown destination.
In a related incident, bandits went on a rampage in Niger State, killing at least 38 people and kidnapping scores of others in communities in the Rafi local government area of the state. The attacks occurred over the weekend, leaving many dead and several others missing.
The Niger State Police Command confirmed the attacks, stating that the bandits invaded the communities in large numbers, shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze.
The police added that a joint security team was mobilized to the area, and they were able to repel the bandits, recovering some stolen livestock.
The police also stated that the number of casualties was still being ascertained, but confirmed that several people were killed, injured, or kidnapped.
The Niger State Government has condemned the attacks, describing them as “barbaric” and “unacceptable”. The government has also assured residents that security measures are being put in place to prevent future attacks.
The attacks are the latest in a series of violent incidents in Niger State, which has been plagued by banditry and kidnapping in recent years.
