Babachir: PDP Not Part of 2027 Opposition Coalition Plans

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has ruled out the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from ongoing opposition coalition talks aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show, Babachir said the coalition’s technical team is considering forming a new party or revamping an existing one. He noted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is actively involved in the alliance, but the PDP has been rejected due to what he described as an “incurable virus.”

“In all the meetings I’ve attended, no one is considering the PDP. It’s beyond repair,” he said.

He added that a new platform would be announced soon to address public curiosity. His remarks suggest Atiku may be preparing to leave the PDP, which remains mired in internal leadership crises following its 2023 election loss.
