
Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has directed Battalion Commanders of the Nigerian Army (NA) to vehemently tackle emerging security threats and demonstrate exemplary leadership. This directive was given during the COAS’ working tour and assessment of the 2 Division’s operational and administrative activities on Thursday, March 13, 2025.
General Oluyede emphasized the importance of leadership qualities such as responsibility, accountability, and moral courage in effectively leading troops. He urged the Commanding Officers to “brace up in vehemently addressing threats to national security in their various areas of responsibility”.
The COAS also commended the Chief of Training (Army), Major General Sadiq Ndalolo, for organizing the First Commanding Officers’ Workshop for 2025. He expressed gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the NA, saying “I expressed profound appreciation to the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, for his continued support to the NA in its transformational drive”.
During his address to troops at the Garrison Parade Ground, General Oluyede praised their sacrifices in combating security challenges and urged them to remain steadfast and professional. He highlighted his priority on the welfare of soldiers and their families, citing ongoing initiatives such as improved accommodations, access to soft loan schemes, and increased allowances.
As part of his welfare schemes, the COAS commissioned the 2 Division Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) Station and a Military Police Holding Facility. He also approved the rehabilitation of the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and the 81 Battalion Officers’ Mess.
