Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have asked the Governor Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker Committee to quickly conduct local government and state congresses and organize an elective national convention.

This was contained in a statement signed by Kebbi State Governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum Atiku Bagudu.

The Committee recently conducted ward congresses, which were allegedly characterized by irregularities.

The governors also appealed to the National Association of Resident Doctors to suspend their ongoing strike.

They appealed to the striking doctors to embrace the ongoing negotiations initiated by the Nigeria Governors Forum.

The governors also urged the relevant government establishments to negotiate with the aggrieved doctors.

In a related news, the Board of Trustees, governors, former ministers, National Assembly Caucus and former governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday met and asked the party’s National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus to convene a National Executive Committee meeting next week.

The meeting also resolved that Secondus’ tenure which was supposed to elapse in December should now end in October this year.

There is intense pressure on Secondus to resign sequel to alleged poor management as well as gale of defections that have hit the party in recent time.

PDP governors had met on Monday over the issue but failed to reach a resolution.

The PDP governors’ meeting held four days after the Board of Trustees met in Abuja, on the same issue.
