Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to purposeful governance, prioritizing the protection of lives, property, and provision of essential amenities for the people.
While inaugurating the renovated Fire Service headquarters in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Fubara emphasized that his administration is focused on people-oriented projects. He noted that the newly renovated fire station would strengthen emergency response, citing past losses, including the Mile One Market and Fruit Garden Market, due to inadequate fire services.
Fubara highlighted that the state is now self-sufficient in responding to fire incidents, no longer relying on multinationals like Agip and Shell. He commended the Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Samuel Anya, and the contractor for delivering the project on schedule.
The governor assured that his administration will continue to ensure the protection of lives and property while defending the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Special Duties Commissioner explained that since the fire service station was built in the 1960s, this was the first time the facility was being remodelled and upgraded. He emphasized that certain features were introduced and added to make the station comparable to fire service stations nationally.
Mr. Clifford Paul, Head of Local Government Administration, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, commended Fubara for turning “the once dilapidated fire service station and its equipment into a modern masterpiece.”
