Plan is afoot by the Kano State Police Command to file charges against the suspended chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, PCACC, Muhuyi Rimingado, for allegedly giving false information to Kano State House of Assembly.
Recall that the Kano State House of Assembly had invited Mr Rimingado to appear before its ad-hoc committee investigating a petition against him on July 14.
But Mr Rigingado, while citing health grounds and attaching medical records to boot, demanded a certified true copy of the petition the assembly received against him and requested for more time appear.
On July 19, the National Hospital wrote to the Kano State House of Assembly, saying the medical records he presented to the House were fake.
In its reply dated July 19, 2021 with reference number NHA/CMAC/GC/0117/2021/V.I/01 and signed by the director, Clinical Services, Dr. A.A. Umar, the National Hospital said it investigated the documents and discovered that they were forged.
On the ground of the hospital’s response, the police in Kano invited Mr Rimingado for questioning, preparatory to filing charges of forgery and conspiracy against him.
The Kano State governor Abdullahi Ganduje is apparently dissatisfied with how the police handled the matter, and therefore insisted that must charges be filed against Mr Rimingado.
Sources at the Government House said the governor believed that the arrest of his wife by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was instigated by the ousted PCACC chairman.
“The governor was angry with Muhuyi over the EFCC invitation of his wife. Everyone believes it was Muhuyi who instigated the invitation,” said a source who preferred anonymity.
The governor is also not happy with the ongoing EFCC investigation regarding a World Bank Educational Intervention project named “BESDA”, in which the anti-graft agency invited the chairman of SUBEB, Danlami Hayyo, for questioning.
Insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that already the police have filed the First Information Report, FIR, at the Chief Magistrate’s Court 56 Noman’s Land presided by Aminu Gabari.
“What is now left is the arraignment. Muhuyi will be invited any moment,” said the source.
When contacted, the former PCACC chairman said he was already cleared on issues of alleged forgery after thorough investigation by the police.
He then challenged the police to make their investigation report public.
Mr Rimingado said the new development contradicts all the normal procedures and established protocols in the criminal justice administration.
“Number one, this is a fresh allegation of false information. The claim is that I gave the House of Assembly false information, hiding under Paragraph 4 of the letter sent to the Assembly by my lawyer, where his brief reveals that I was at the National Hospital.
“This is myopic and dangerous to our democratic process. After desperate attempts nail me from all corners failed, they now resort to this shenanigan, which can never stand,” Mr Rimingado said.
Spokesman for the police, Abdullahi Kiyawa, could not be reached for comment at the time of filing this report.
