Abuja Chief Judge resigns, picks NJI appointment

Honourable Salisu Garba the Chief Judge of FCT resigned two month to his official retirement age, to enable him proceed to his new appointment as Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, NJI. 

National Judicial Institute is responsible for organizing capacity building to judges accross the nation and other court workers. 

Ahuraka Isah, spokesman to the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Tanko Muhammad, made the announcement that Garba transitioned to NJI from FCT Chief Judge position he held for few months. 

“The National Judicial Institute Board of Governors, under the chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Honourable Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad (OFR), at its meeting held on July 15, 2021 appointed Honourable Justice Salisu Garba as the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI).” the statement read. 

Garba took over from Justice Roseline Partricia Irorefe Bozimo (Rtd), who finished her tenure on 31st July. 

This newspaper SkyDaily learned that Mr. Garba is due for retirement on 10th October 2021 after attaining the 65 year of age according to the law provisions in the judiciary. However, he resigned to enable himself took over with the new appointment. 

Honourable Salisu Garba was called to the Nigerian bar in 1984. He became magistrate in 1989 three years to his practice as lawyer.  He was appointed a judge of the FCT High Court in 1998.

Garba’s appointment as administrator of the NJI is effective from 1st August.
