The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, Professor Magaji Garba, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was detained by the agency last Thursday after honoring an invitation in relation to his involvement in a case of abuse of office, corrupt practices, and contract scam.

A competent source at the anti-graft agency disclosed that the Vice Chancellor, sometime in 2018, fraudulently obtained 260 million naira from a contractor named Alhaji Shehu Sambo, owner of Ministaco Nigeria Limited, on the pretext that the university was going to award a contract worth 3 billion naira for the construction of a perimeter fence to his company.

But the contract did not materialize prompting Shehu Sambo to petition the anti-graft agency.

The spokesman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest to newsmen today but did not give further details.
