Governor Bello Mohammed (Matawallen Maradun) has sympathise with the people of Lingyado in Maru Emirate over yesterday’s unfortunate event where five people were reportedly abducted by suspected bandits.
Matawalle’s special adviser on public enlightenment, media and communications, Zailani Bappa, disclosed this a statement made available to journalist.
Governor Matawalle further assures that he has directed the state Police Command to expedite action to ensure the safe rescue of the victims just as he has directed for pro-active measures in averting such incidence elsewhere in the state.
However, Governor Matawalle expressed his dismay over conflicting media reports on what actually happened in the village pointing out a lapse in the process of information gathering by the media.
“the media as the fourth estate of the realm must always endeavour to verify information from appropriate quarters before disseminating same to the public”, Matawalle observed.
It would be recalled that some media organisations reported that over 50 persons were abducted from the village yesterday which was not a true reflection of what happened going by Police report of the abduction figure of four people and the district head.
“In any case, the government is on its toes to ensure greater vigilance in the quest to safeguard our communities. We shall continue to do our best to secure lives and property and make our towns and villages safe for our people”, Matawalle assured.
