Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, has hinted that President Muhammadu Buhari would submit the 2021 national budget estimates to the National Assembly, next week.
He also noted that Buhari today asked the National Assembly to approve 148.1 billion naira payment to Ondo, Rivers, Cross-River, Osun, and Bayelsa states.
Buhari, in his letter, read by the Senate President, said the amount was the reimbursement of the federal roads project they executed in their states.
The breakdown of the money included N78.9billion for Rivers state, N38.4billion for Bayelsa state, N18.3billion for Cross River state, N7.8billion for Ondo state and N4.5billion for Osun state.
He said the lawmakers would devote October for budget defense while November will be for the internal processing of the document.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the House of Representatives to seek approval for the Federal Government to reimburse five states for constructing roads on its behalf.
The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, read the presidential request at the opening of plenary on Tuesday.
President Buhari noted that the Federal Executive Council, at a meeting on June 3, 2020, approved the reimbursement. The Speaker also read Buhari’s cover letter on the Petroleum Industry Bill which was transmitted to the National Assembly during the lawmakers’ two-month annual recess.
