The All Progressives Congress (APC) had no candidates in the 2019 general elections in Zamfara state according to a new landmark judgment of the Supreme Court on Friday.
Justice Paul Adamu Galinji led five-member panel of justices to an unanimous judgment that APC in the state failed to conduct primaries in accordance with the party rules.
The new judgment means all votes cast for the APC are “void votes” and that all political parties with the second highest number votes in the elections at all levels are returned elected.
The five-man panel also fined APC the cost of N10million in favour of Senator Kabiru Marafa’s faction of the APC and other respondents in the appeal.
The justices at the end of the sitting warned politicians to desist from actions capable of overheating the polity.
