
In continuation of the Federal Government’s resolve to make waterways safe, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, in collaboration with the Taraba State Government, have bolstered water transport safety with the official handover of consignment of life jackets to the National Inland Waterways Authority, Jalingo Area Office.
The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, representated by Director, Marine Conservation, Innovation and Technology, Hussieni Shettima emphasized federal government’s unwavering dedication and commitment towards fostering safer inland water travel, expressing confidence that the combined efforts of federal and state agencies would lead to tangible, life-saving outcomes on Taraba’s waterways.
In a statement by the Ministry’s Director, Information & Communications, Anastasia Ogbonna, the successful distribution of the life jackets is anticipated to significantly enhance the safety of thousands who depend on the Benue, Donga, and Taraba rivers for their daily commuting and commercial operations.
The initiative which marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing campaign to minimize waterway accidents across Taraba State is expected to reduce loss of lives in waterways accidents and, ultimately, save zsl lives.
