Aondoakaa Yaiyol, the Commander of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Services in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, was assassinated by unknown gunmen on Friday night.
Yaiyol was shot at close quarters by assailants who arrived on a motorcycle. The gunmen fled the scene, shielded by two cars that fired sporadically to scare away witnesses.
Yaiyol was a former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Tarka Local Government Area. His killing has spread fear among residents, who are wondering if the assassins would return again.
The police have confirmed the incident and are working to track down the suspects. The Benue State Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, stated that law enforcement officers had tracked the prime suspect to a hideout, but he managed to escape before arrest.
The Chief of Army Staff hasn’t directly commented on this incident but has assured that the military will bring to justice those responsible for recent killings in Benue and other troubled parts of the country.
It’s worth noting that this incident is part of a larger security challenge in Benue State, where other attacks and killings have been reported.
