Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has condemned the hypocrisy and selective outrage that pervades Nigerian politics. In a statement, Atiku emphasized the importance of freedom of association and expression in a democracy, saying, “Hypocrisy and selective outrage have never been this fashionable!”
According to Atiku, the double standards applied to politicians are glaring. “When PDP leaders are busy sipping tea and brokering power deals with President Tinubu, it’s called strategic alliance. But the moment I greet Peter Obi, el-Rufai, or visit Buhari, it becomes a national emergency,” he lamented. Atiku’s comments come on the heels of his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari, which sparked controversy among some Nigerians.
Atiku warned Nigerians against being distracted by ethnic, regional, or religious sentiments, emphasizing that the real enemy is the Tinubu administration’s abysmal failure to address the nation’s economic woes. “The economy is in freefall. Inflation is choking the masses. Jobs are vanishing. Youth restiveness is surging to terrifying levels. Nigerians are not just tired — they are angry, and rightfully so,” he stated.
Atiku called on Nigerians to reject the politics of division and manipulation, emphasizing that collective survival depends on holding the government accountable for its failures. “The real enemy is not one another — it is the Tinubu administration’s abysmal failure. We must reject every attempt to distract us with ethnic, regional, or religious sentiments,” he urged. By doing so, Nigerians can demand better governance and shape a better future for the country.
