
Gunmen have abducted Mr. Loveday Akari, a Senior Special Assistant to the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in Ayakoro Community, Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
The incident, which occurred on March 7, 2025, has thrown the family of the victim and the NDDC into panic.
Sources close to the family confirmed the abduction to our correspondent, saying that the gunmen stormed the residence of the victim at about 8pm and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
According to the sources, the abductors have not established contact with the family or the NDDC authorities, fueling fears over the safety of the victim.
Intelligence sources hinted that security agencies have launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted aide, but the motive behind the abduction is not yet clear.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in Bayelsa, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the abduction, saying that the police are working to ensure the safe release of the victim.
Butswat said, “We are aware of the abduction of Mr. Loveday Akari, a Senior Special Assistant to the Managing Director of the NDDC, and we are working to ensure his safe release.”
The abduction of the NDDC MD’s aide has added to the growing list of kidnappings and abductions in Bayelsa State, which has become a major concern for residents and security agencies.
