Lakurawa Kill Two Policemen, Rustle Cows In Kebbi State Attack

An attack in Natsini village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, on Thursday, has resulted in the deaths of two policemen and the rustling of over 200 cows.

The perpetrators, suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, arrived at the scene on motorcycles, overpowering the police officers at a checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road.

According to eyewitnesses, the terrorists, numbering over 50, proceeded to raid a nearby ranch, making off with the stolen cattle.

A local resident, Abubakar Augie, described the incident, saying, “The Lakurawa were more than 50 on motorcycles; after overpowering the few policemen at the checkpoint, they went to where the cows were kept in his ranch and went away with them.”

The rustled cows belonged to a prominent civil servant, Lawali Black.

Confirming the incident, Argungu Local Government Chairman, Aliyu Gulma, stated that a security meeting was underway, and security agents had been directed by the state government to recover the stolen cows.

SP Nafiu Abubakar, the police command public relations officer, also confirmed the report, saying, “It is true, two of our men died during an encounter with them.”

He added that joint operations by the police and other security agencies had been intensified to apprehend the bandits and recover the rustled cows.

The Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Bello M Sani, has paid a visit to the scene and the Emir of Argungu, as the investigation into the attack continues.
