On Saturday, December 28, 2024, The Knowledge Development Initiative hosted Dr. Yunusa Ya’u at its Gombe office and awarded him the title of Personality of the Year in recognition of his support for the growth of organizations such as the Open Knowledge Development Initiative and many others in Nigeria.
Speaking during the hour-long event, the Executive Director of OKDI acknowledged the crucial role Dr. Y.Z. Ya’u has played in inspiring and contributing to the sustainability of the civic space by influencing the emergence of active organizations across the country.
“For us at OKDI, we are here today because Dr. Y.Z. has played a significant role in supporting our emergence. The first project we ever delivered was made possible through the sponsorship and mentorship of Dr. Y.Z. Ya’u.”
He further mentioned that the transition to OKDI was also guided and motivated by him.
In his remarks, Dr. Y.Z. Ya’u commended OKDI for its rapid growth and the significant impact it has made.
“I commend the founder and the entire team for their outstanding work. It is not easy to start and sustain an organization, but you all have persevered and are achieving great things. For us, we have been intentional about mentoring many organizations, and I truly appreciate OKDI for this recognition and appreciation.”
