CP Nadada, Ten others promoted to AIG rank by PSC

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced the promotion of 11 Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG), including Shehu Umar Nadada, who previously served as the Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State.

The promotion was part of the Commission’s 2nd Plenary Meeting, held on December 16, 2024. Umar’s elevation followed a selection process that included written and oral examinations conducted at the PSC headquarters.

The Commission, under the leadership of DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), stated that these examinations are now mandatory for promotions across all cadres in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Argungu urged officers to focus on professional development and proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Shehu Umar Nadada joins other officers promoted to AIG, including Mustapha Mohammed Bala – Commissioner of Police, Rivers State; Abayomi Peter Oladipo – Commissioner of Police, Ondo State; Taiwo Olatunde Adeleke – Commissioner of Police, SWAT, FCID, Abuja; and Ibrahim Abdullahi – Commissioner of Police, Kaduna State.

Others on the list include Nwonyi Polycarp Emeka – Commissioner of Police, PPP, DLS, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Akinwale Kunle Adeniran – Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State; Zubairu Abubakar – Commissioner of Police, Police Staff College, Jos; Fom Pam Joseph – Commissioner of Police, Homicide, FCID Abuja; Emuobo Fred Ekokotu – Commissioner of Police, Admin, Airwing, Abuja; and Garba Musa Yusuf – Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos.

The Chairman of the Commission’s Standing Committee on Police Promotions, DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), advised the newly promoted officers to maintain high standards in their roles. He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to ensuring merit-based promotions within the force.

Shehu Umar Nadada is from Rano LGA of Kano State.

He holds a B.Sc. in Applied Biology from Bayero University, Kano, and a Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and has served in various capacities, including Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command; Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Nasarawa State Command; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Nasarawa State Command. He also served as 2iC, Area Command, Zaria, Kaduna State Command.

Umar Nadada has also worked as a Divisional Police Officer in divisions across Niger, Ekiti, Kaduna, and Anambra States. Additionally, he has held roles as Divisional Crime Officer and Staff Officer Junior at the Niger State Police Command.

He has attended various courses locally and internationally, including Citizenship and Leadership, Combat Operation, Intermediate Command, Operational Management, Financial Malpractices in Banks, Financial Intelligence and Fraud Management, Training on Humanitarian Principles, and International Standards of Law Enforcement.

He also participated in the Senior Executive Course 45, 2023, at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos, and a Leadership Course at the China National Academy of Governance in Beijing.

His hobbies include reading and horse riding. He is married with children.
