The family of the Emir of Bichi, Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, has denied claims that the upcoming wedding of their daughter, Maryam Nasir Ado Bayero, to Jibrin Barau Jibrin, the son of the Deputy President of the Senate, was relocated from Kano to Abuja due to political tensions surrounding the Tax Reform Bills.

In a statement signed by Alhaji Aminu Babba Dan Agundi, Sarkin Dawaki Babba of Kano and Chairman of the bride’s family organizing committee, the family explained that the decision to move the wedding, slated for Friday, December 13, 2024, was for logistical reasons.

“The decision to change the location of our daughter’s wedding from Kano to Abuja was purely and solely the decision of our families and not that of our daughter’s would-be husband’s family—the Deputy President of the Senate,” the statement read.

Alhaji Dan Agundi stated that the bride’s family is responsible for selecting the wedding venue. He denied any connection between the relocation and the Tax Reform Bills.

“The relocation of the wedding venue has no connection with issues generated by the Tax Reform Bills,” he said, adding that the move to Abuja was made weeks ago to accommodate dignitaries traveling from across the country and abroad.

The family urged the public to avoid politicizing the marriage, which they described as a significant religious and cultural event.

Maryam Nasir Ado Bayero is set to marry Jibrin Barau Jibrin, the son of Senator Barau Jibrin, who is the Deputy President of the Senate.
