A Kano State Shariah Court at Kofar Kudu has ordered the remand of Nasiru Mukhtar for allegedly assaulting Imam Malam Murtala Sulaiman during the early morning prayers in a mosque located in the Tudunwada area of Nasarawa local government.

According to reports, the incident took place around 5 a.m. on October 22, 2024, when Mukhtar allegedly entered the mosque, confronted the imam by gripping his neck, slapped him, tore his clothing, and seized the microphone.

In response, Imam Murtala Sulaiman lodged a complaint with the Kano State Police Command, which subsequently led to Mukhtar’s arrest.

During the court session, Mukhtar’s defense counsel applied for bail, arguing that further investigation was necessary.

However, the presiding judge, Malam Isah Rabi’u Gaya, declined the bail request, ordering a psychiatric assessment of the accused to evaluate his mental condition.

The case has been adjourned until November 22, 2024, with Mukhtar remaining in custody.
