Members of the Tea4Peace Initiative in Kano have paid an advocacy visit to the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dala Local Government Command.
The team, who were implementing the Tea4Peace disclosed they were at the Board to seek its partnership and working relationship for improved social cohesion, community security and promotion of good leadership.
“Tea4Peace is a community-based campaign convened to redirect discussions around local tea parley in Kano to inspire action that promote participatory democracy,” says Abdussamad Ahmad Yusuf.
Mr. Yusuf who is the Project Lead, while intimating the Hisba boss, said the existance of misunderstanding between youth and vigilante groups have resulted in many clashes that undermines peaceful coexistance. This informed the idea of Tea4Peace to bring all local youth stakeholders to address issues bordering social cohesion and citizens interface with the Government establishment to strengthen democracy
“We have already forged working relation with the LG’s Police division to revive the Police-Community Relations Committee, PCRC to create inclusion for youth” Mr. Yusuf explained.
Reacting to the remarks by the Tea4Peace, the Local Government Commandant Malam Umar Balala applauded the good thinking of the members for the timely intervention on promotion of social cohesion at local level. He noted that, Hisba is a critical stakeholder in mass mobilization, community reorientation and promotion of good attitude.
Malam Balala urged the member to remain steadfast in discharging this voluntery initiative and prepare for the challenge ahead.
“Our doors at Hisba are always open shall you need any support” he closed.
Tea4Peace informed the commandant of their upcoming Roundtable discussion themed; social cohesion as a tool for citizen civic responsibility.
During the visit Abdussamad Ahmad Yusuf was joined by other members: Ibrahim Attajeeree, Amb. Abubakar Dturawa, Sumayya Muhammad and Aminu Ashiru Dala.
Tea4Peace is being supported by Yiaga Africa and Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) in their Turn Up Democracy Challenge 1.0 in Nigeria.
