In one of the line up events to commemorate Indipendence day of Republic of Niger, Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum was decorated with ‘de grand officer dans I `ordre’ the second to the country’s highest national honor. The national honor is the equivalent of Grand Commander of Order of Niger, GCON, in Nigeria.
Prof. Zulum was honored for his resolute commitment in evacuation of refuges in Niger, his fierce and sincere fight against Bokoharam which also bedevils Niger republic among other reasons. The Nigerien president Muhammed Bazoum said he has monitored Prof. Zulum hence the honor.
The colorful event took place in Zinder and is the first time any Nigerian governor is honored with the second national honor from Nigeria.
Senators Kashim Shetima, Mohammed Ali Ndume and Honorable Muhammad Tahir Mungono, chief whip of the House of representatives are among the delegates that accompanied Zulum. Others are the Speaker Bono State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan and Engr. Bukar Talba, the State’s Agric and Natural Resources Commissioner.
