The Nigerian Army has urged remnants of the Boko Haram fighters to surrender and embrace peace.

The General Officer Commanding, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Brigadier General A. A. Eyitayo, made the call at a feast organized for journalists by the army yesterday in Maiduguri.

Eyitayo, who is also the Commander Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai, said the recent military onslaught against the Boko Haram insurgents dealt decisive blow on the terrorists leaving their remnants in disarray.

He noted that nobody including the military was happy over the bloodshed, hence, the need for the remnants of the insurgents to leverage on the amnesty and repent their nefarious ways.

This, he said, would avail the insurgents, opportunity to enjoy rehabilitation and acquire skills to enable them to live a useful life in the society.

Eyitayo lauded the contributions of the media in the counter insurgency campaign and urged it to enlighten the insurgents to see the light and repent from their wasteful ventures.

Meanwhile, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume, has said the military no longer has excuses not to deliver in the war against insurgency.

Ndume said this in a statement to mark this year’s Democracy Day.

Last week, the Federal Executive Council announced that President Muhammadu Buhari had submitted a supplementary budget of 895 billion naira to the National Assembly for consideration.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, who said over 700 billion naira from the 895 billion naira has been earmarked for tackling all forms of insecurity, promised that the National Assembly would give speedy approval to the supplementary budget.

In his statement, Ndume said the money would boost the fight against insurgency.

The senator representing Borno South commended President Muhammadu Buhari over his Democracy Day broadcast.
