President Muhammadu Buhari says his administration has lifted 10.5 million people out of poverty. The president said this today in his Democracy Day broadcast.
He listed farmers, small-scale traders, artisans, market women among the class of persons whose lives have improved under him.
The president also said his government is on track to fulfil its promise to lift 100 million persons out of poverty.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has accused governors of causing the country so much pain as a result of the strike of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria.
When he played host to the Nigerian Inter-Religious Council at the State House, Abuja yesterday, the president spoke on his commitment to devolving of power to the people.
The president also spoke about the effect of the strike, lamenting its security implication.
In another news, President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that individuals who finance terrorism in various parts of the country do so to remain relevant.
The president stated this yesterday in an interview with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Buhari, while responding to a question about the alleged financiers of terrorism his administration recently apprehended, stated that most of them are wealthy individuals who are no longer relevant in government.
He said such people will be made to face the law.
About 400 businessmen, including bureau de change operators, were recently arrested for allegedly funding Boko Haram.
No one has been convicted in the country for funding Boko Haram, the group that has caused tens of thousands of deaths in Northern Nigeria since 2009.
In a similar development, President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed optimism that the country will overcome its current challenges.
President Buhari, in a national broadcast to commemorate Democracy Day today, said the country had in the last two years witnessed and overcome a good number of testy challenges that would have destroyed other nations especially relating to security.
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari says the All-Progressives Congress (APC) will remain in power for as long as possible.
The president said this yesterday in an interview he granted to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
He said everything possible is being done to make the party formidable. The president also vowed not to say in office a day longer than expected.
The president expressed the desire to hand over a more prosperous country to his successor in 2023.
