The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has today in Abuja said that 34,587 operatives would be deployed to Anambra for the state’s 6 November governorship election.
Usman Baba made the declaration at a meeting with police officers from the rank of Commissioner and above.
He said the deployment would consist of conventional police officers, Police Mobile Force, the Counter Terrorism Unit, Special Forces, Explosive Ordnance Unit, Force Intelligence Bureau, INTERPOL, Special Protection Unit and a medical team.
He said three helicopters would be deployed for aerial surveillance while detachments of Marine Police operatives would also be deployed to ensure safe, secure and credible electoral process.
Usman Baba said the deployments followed the outcome of election security threat analysis conducted by the Force Intelligence Bureau.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court today affirmed Charles Soludo as the governorship candidate of the All-Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ahead of the forthcoming election in Anambra State.
A five-man panel led by Mary Odili also affirmed Victor Oye as the national chairman of the party.
The apex court’s judgement upheld the earlier verdict of the Kano State Division of the Court of Appeal, which validated the primary election that produced Soludo as the party’s candidate ahead of the November 6, 2021 election.
The Court of Appeal had quashed a Jigawa State High Court judgement that recognized a parallel primary election that was conducted by the Jude Okeke-led faction of APGA.
Soludo, a professor and former CBN governor, emerged the winner of the primary election organized on June 23 by the APGA faction loyal to Governor Willie Obiano. The faction is led by Oye.
