The Kano State Commissioner for Agriculture and Mineral Resources, Nasiru Gawuna has been sworn in as the new deputy governor of the state.
The position became vacant, following the resignation of Hafizu Abubakar on August 5 due to political crisis with the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

Daily Nigerian reports that the oath of office was administered by the state Chief Judge, Nura Sagir, amidst cheers by hundreds of supporters at the government house.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr Ganduje revealed that Mr Gawuna would continue as the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Mineral Resources.
The governor also revealed that the newly-appointed deputy governor would be his running mate in the build-up to 2019 governorship election.

He described Mr Gawuna as the right choice as the deputy governor, in view of his administrative and political pedigree, expressing optimism that they would together work harmoniously for the development of the state.

“It must take long time to appoint a deputy governor because you have to look for a dedicated, loyal, experienced and vibrant candidate. I am therefore convinced that Gawuna has fulfilled all these requirements,” Mr Ganduje said
