13 Local Governments in Sokoto States which comprises Rabah, Wurno, Dange Shuni, Kebbe, Gwadabawa, Tangaza, Isa Others were Bodinga, Wamakko, Silame, Illela, Sabon birni, and Yabo have been affected by diarrhea outbreak.
This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by Sokoto state commissioner of health Dr. Ali Inname.
Dr. Inname confirmed that accross the 13 LGs, 23 deaths were recorded with 265 people already affected by the outbreak.
The disease resurfaced because of water contamination in the LGs and visitation of patients by their relatives which transmits further the disease.
“There are many factors leading to the resurfacing of the disease one of which is the contamination of their main source of drinking water.”
“You know most of the people living in rural areas openly defecate and now we are in a raining period. That is why their main sources of water became contaminated and the bacteria resurfaced in those areas.
“Another factor was visitation by relatives of the affected patients, this help in spreading the disease to neighbouring villages. So far we recorded 23 death and 265 people were so far affected,” Dr. Inname explained.
He said medical and health workers have been mobilized to the affected areas to sensitize and treat patients while calling on the health workers to desist from home treatment of patients.
