10 killed, many injured as fresh bandits’ attack hits Zamfara

No fewer than 10 persons were killed by the group of suspected unrepentant bandits at Janbako village of Maradun local government council of Zamfara state, the area where Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle hails from.

A resident of the village identified as Malam Ibrahim Janbako told Blueprint via telephone conversation that the Bandits numbering to over 100 on over 50 motorcycles besieged the village around 10:25 am on Sunday, with suppisticated weapons, and began shooting sporadically on air.

He revealed that during the encounter with Bandits,the vigilantes killed five of the Bandits but they took away their body and ran into forest.

“As I am talking to you now, we have burried six people and preparing for the burial of the remaining four killed by the bandits and we sent vigilantes to guard our cemetery in order to have chance to bury our people killed by the Bandits,” Janbako stated.

He said immediately after sighting them, the villagers ran helter-skelter for their safety but in the process, the bandits shot and killed 10 innocent people during the attack while four people sustained gunshots injuries.

“As soon as we heard sounds of gunshots, our people run into the bush including our women and children but unfortunately, we lost 10 of innocent people,” he said.

He commended the security personnel, particularly the military and police for their quick response after receiving their distress call which foiled the attack.

He called on Zamfara state and federal government to deploy more joint task forces to the area to intensify efforts to mitigate insecurity bedivilling the state as a result of the activities of bandits.

Speaking to Newsmen Saturday, the state police commissioner, CP. Abutu Yaro, said the command in collaboration with Zamfara state government will continue dialogue with bandits especially those who are ready to surrender their weapons for peace to thrive in the state.
