On arrival in Ethiopia, Vice President Kashim Shettima immediately met with the Ethiopian Prime Minister, Abiy Ahmed, signed the official state guest register, and also visited the Ethiopia National Palace Museum.
The museum is located within the restored Grand Palace in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and showcases various aspects of Ethiopia’s history and cultural legacy, including a collection of vintage vehicles.
The National Palace was built in 1955 to mark Emperor Haile Selassie’s Silver Jubilee, with further works that doubled its surface area between 1966 and 1967. The palace was the last residence of Emperor Haile Selassie before his overthrow in 1974.
It is a neoclassical building with deep art deco influence. The bas-reliefs on the main façade illustrate the history of Ethiopia. The museum offers a wide array of exhibits, including a car museum, a special section dedicated to the former palace, various royal artefacts, and diplomatic gifts from nations around the world.
