Troops of 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, and Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have neutralised a bandit and recovered arms and a stolen motorcycle in Taraba State, the Army said on Sunday.
According to Capt. Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, the operation was part of ongoing efforts under Operation Lafiyan Jamaa to rid the state of criminal elements.
Oni said the troops, acting on credible intelligence, launched a precision operation on May 3 around Gafar village in Ussa Local Government Area, a location notorious for bandit activities.
He said the troops encountered the criminals in a firefight, during which one bandit was neutralised.
“An AK-47 rifle and a motorcycle previously stolen from a civilian were recovered during the operation,” he added.
In a separate operation, the troops responded to intelligence on the movement of suspected bandits from Adamawa State into Bali Local Government Area of Taraba.
The response led the troops to Yunkunssu Forest, where they made contact with the suspects.
Oni said the bandits fled in disarray after coming under heavy firepower from the troops.
“During the exploitation phase, troops recovered a locally fabricated revolver gun, one AK-47 magazine, and three rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” he said.
The Army spokesman reiterated the commitment of the brigade and Sector 3 OPWS to the safety and security of law-abiding citizens in the state.
He urged the public to continue providing timely and credible information to support ongoing military operations.
