
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested an Angolan businessman, Antonio Edmildo, at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) in Kano State for cocaine trafficking.
According to the NDLEA, Edmildo was arrested on February 27, 2025, while trying to board a flight to Angola. During a search of his luggage, NDLEA operatives found 9.70 kilograms of cocaine concealed in his bags.
The NDLEA stated that Edmildo had traveled to Nigeria on February 24, 2025, and was on his way back to Angola when he was arrested. The agency added that the cocaine seized from Edmildo has a street value of over N1 billion.
The NDLEA Commander at the MAKIA, Mohammed Ajiya, said that the arrest was a significant seizure and a major disruption of the cocaine trafficking network in Nigeria.
Edmildo is currently being detained by the NDLEA and will be charged to court soon.
