Kano, Nigeria – April 1, 2025 – Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has launched a competitive development initiative among Local Government Chairmen to fast-track rural projects across the state.
The governor made the announcement during the Hawan Nasarawa celebrations at the Government House, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to rural transformation. According to Governor Yusuf, the initiative is designed to encourage Local Government Chairmen to take ownership of development projects in their respective areas.
“We have introduced a competition where every Local Government Chairman must present and execute development projects within a stipulated timeframe,” Governor Yusuf stated. “Once a chairman submits a viable project, funds will be released immediately. Those who deliver on time will be allowed to take on multiple projects.”
The initiative aims to foster healthy competition among Local Government Chairmen, ensuring efficient service delivery and impactful development across Kano State. The governor’s administration expects the competition to drive innovation and creativity in project implementation, ultimately improving the lives of rural communities.
Underperforming chairmen have been warned to take their responsibilities seriously, as the governor’s administration will not tolerate delays in project execution. Governor Yusuf emphasized that his administration is committed to transparency and accountability, and will closely monitor the progress of projects.
In response to Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II’s call for more financial support to local governments, Governor Yusuf assured that his administration is prioritizing rural development and is ready to support well-planned projects. The governor reiterated his commitment to working closely with traditional leaders and other stakeholders to drive development in Kano State.
The LG development competition is expected to commence immediately, with Local Government Chairmen already submitting proposals for projects. The governor’s administration has pledged to provide necessary support and resources to ensure the success of the initiative.
