An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyu community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, has claimed the life of one student and injured four others, sources familiar with the incident told Premium Times.
The incident occurred around noon on Monday, causing panic within the community, located about 42 kilometers from Abuja city center. Emergency and security personnel, including the police bomb disposal unit, were at the scene, while the injured students were taken to a nearby hospital.
A security source said, “The dead student, whose identity is yet to be ascertained, bore the substance suspected to be an IED, which exploded and injured the other students, thereby causing pandemonium in the center.”
Efforts to reach the school authorities for comments were unsuccessful.
Another source stated, “The students involved were recently admitted into the school and resumed on 3rd January 2025.”
The police have not released an official statement, and attempts to contact the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, were unsuccessful as her phone did not connect.
Details about the explosion remain unclear. Further updates will follow.
