Controversy and outrage have trailed the appointment of the wife of Osun State Attorney General, Oyinkansola Akande as Personal Assistant to her husband, Femi Akande.

A letter of appointment by the state government through the Office of Secretary to the State Government obtained by our reporter, dated February 4th, 2020 with ref number SS/EX/02/Vol. II/95, titled, ‘Appointment as Personal Assistant’, read: “I am pleased to inform you that governor of the State of Osun, Mr Adegboyega Oyetola has approved your appointment as Personal Assistant to the Attorney General and Hon Commissioner for Justice with effect from 24th October 2019.

“While congratulating you on this well-deserved appointment, the state government counts much on you that this elevation would enhance your performance with a view to moving the State of Osun to a greater height.

“Congratulations and best wishes for a fruitful tenure of office”.

The appointment caused outrage on social media as the appointment was described as ‘nepotism’.

A resident of the state, Wale Adegbite, said “The appointment of the wife of the Commissioner for Justice can be best described as bias. It is unfair for the government to appoint husband and wife into political office. Where is accountability in that?

Another resident named Sheriff Akintunde said, “I propose that Osun State House of Assembly under Speaker Timothy Owoeye should pass a bill into law for an act to compulsorily elevate the wife of Mr Governor Kafaya Oyetola to the position of Personal Assistant to her Excellency Husband like it was done for Yeside Akande who is Wife of the Son of Chief Bisi Akande in her capacity as Personal Assistant to her Husband and Osun State Commissioner of Justice and Attorney General.

Another resident, an Engineer, Bidemi, said: “Only God can save and deliver this country from our politicians. The masses have a role to stop this madness in coming election.”

The Osun state Commissioner for Information, Mrs Funke Egbemonde, has not responded to the text message sent to her, seeking for reaction on the letter in circulation as of 6.07pm on Monday when this report was filed.
